Purpose
The purpose of the Institute of Pastoral Studies is to offer a balanced program of study for church leaders who are not able to complete a regular program of study on campus.

Program Overview
Persons interested in training for congregational leadership will be able to take up to 4.5 credit hours per year in the IPS program. In three years, it is possible to earn 15 credit hours (4.5 per year plus 1.5 hours of supervised ministry) thus fulfilling requirements for a “Certificate in Pastoral Studies.” Students can begin the program with any of the three modules of courses.

One new thing we hope to offer in 2010-2011 is the option of companion independent study courses that would allow IPS students to bump their credit from 1½ hours to 3 hours per course. With the extra credits, courses could transfer to other RBC programs or even other colleges. This will not change the workload for the IPS courses themselves. It is only an option for those who might want the transfer potential.

Supervised Ministry
Along with the week of concentrated study on the Rosedale campus each year and the additional personal study, students are mentored in a supervised ministry experience in their local settings. This generally takes place between the second and third years in the program.

Dates
The week of concentrated study is offered at Rosedale the first full week of October. In 2010, the dates are October 4–8. Additional reading and writing assignments are spread throughout the school year. An outline will be given by each instructor indicating when assignments are due, and some reading assignments may be completed before arriving on campus.
