The men and women who teach at Rosedale Bible College are a varied and gifted lot. They don't agree on everything, but they are remarkably united in their beliefs about the centrality of Christ, the authority of scripture, and the idea that Anabaptism has something to say to the larger church.
Their commitment to the people they teach is remarkable, too. Rosedale students consistently give our faculty high marks for quality of teaching and accessibility.
Recognizing the need to lead students to essential biblical knowledge, a Christian worldview and a solid foundation for more advanced study, we plan to:
- Pursue regional accreditation. Rosedale Bible College is currently accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). Our status with this nationally recognized accrediting body has significantly opened up transfer opportunities for our students, as well as access to federal and state financial aid. Regional accreditation with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools would open more doors for our students, particularly at state and secular colleges. Because we want to do all we can to help students with high academic ambitions to start their college career with us, we will move ahead to explore this possibility immediately.
- Switch to a semester system. As RBC has journeyed from a Bible institute to a Bible college, more of our students than ever have been taking a full year's worth of classes. This change has increased the call from faculty and students alike for a move from our current six-week term system to a more sustainable semester system. Advantages of semesters include: better pacing for instructors and students, increased retention (fewer transitions between terms), and better alignment with the 'typical' college academic schedule. We do recognize, however, our unique and continuing service to short–term students desiring a more intense time of Bible training. Beginning in the
fall of 2007, RBC will switch to a new academic schedule that incorporates 'the best of both worlds': 12–week semesters in the fall and spring, and a 6–week winter term.
- Develop a distance learning program. Online learning is the fastest growing segment of higher education. By developing college classes that can be taken at home on a flexible schedule via the Internet, adults near and far can participate in a Rosedale education. By the fall of 2008, RBC hopes to offer a series of online college classes, taught from an evangelical Anabaptist perspective by RBC professors.
- Invest in faculty enrichment and continuing education. To be at their best as teachers in the classroom, RBC professors need to grow in their own faith and knowledge. We want to support this growth by providing more funding to professors for their continuing education, and providing greater opportunities for them to attend events for their intellectual and spiritual enrichment.
